There are some very important specifications which need to be considered while working on the high speed designs.

• Return Loss (S21)
• Insertion Loss (S11)
• Cross talk
• Mode Conversion

Whenever we start a High speed design, we have to start with a channel budget by doing a loss budget between the transmitter and the receiver. Hugh speed design interfaces include PCIe, USB, Ethernet, HDMI, etc., Each of these interfaces demand a specifications threshold such that the channel is not lossy for that interface. This preliminary analysis on these parameters to select the type of PCB material that need to be used.
