Yes, you heard it right and this is what researchers claim. Circuit boards made from leaves, called "leaftronics", are a biodegradable alternative to traditional printed circuit boards (PCBs). The research team at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) developed this technology. PCB contains components, traces, PCB is made of fiber glass and these are all e-waste once their utilization is over. E-waste is one of the biggest challenge that we have and there are several standards developed for this. There is no correct alternative right now for recycling and right now we see lot of electronics waste left as is causing pollution or an alternative is to burn which causes more pollution. Electronics PCB made out of leaf is a boon for the environment. In leaftronics, skeleton of leaf is used to create biodegradable substrates. Researchers claim that this can handle high temperatures as well.
