Designers have to keep in mind that EMC causes component failures, temporary malfunction of circuit. Let us list some of the scenarios which might cause EMC issues:
- Interference that may be external as well as internal
- External include energy that is coupling into the systems due to the external cables
- Any RF fields around the equipment interfering with the circuit functionality
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD)
- Interference within the own circuit (Could be low frequency interference as well)
- Oscillators/Crystals
- Improperly routed high speed traces
- Voltage fluctuations which crosses the given threshold causing control signals to misbehave
- voltage fluctuations can be
- under voltage
- over voltage
- Supply Voltage issues like
- Voltage Transients that occur on the supply and control lines
