The major problem most of the design engineers face is the lack of clarity on the sources of noise. The noise can be from external, from circuit itself and man-made as well. Ultimately, the design engineer has to tackle with all these noise surrounding the circuit. In some cases, the engineer has to predict or to visualize the problems that might occur and take an action in the circuit. For example, the noise due to components (thermal and shot noise) has to be predicted or in some cases the problems due to parasitic has to be visualized in mind and necessary circuit design principle applied. This is where breaking down the system into sub-blocks and further sub-blocks to circuit sub-sections and further down to component level is very helpful to predict the low level problems. An individual design engineer cannot do this, sometimes simulations, talking to various other cross-functional teams helps.
