We might see a domination of 32-bit microcontrollers in the market but 8-bit microcontrollers are still alive and used in many applications. The advantage of these chips is the low power, low peripheral count, low cost. We do not see fancy interfaces with the 8-bit microcontrollers and the just fitting criteria is enough for the applications.
Let us list the various 8-bit microcontrollers in the market.
- EFM8BB51 series from Silicon Labs available at around $0.5
- EFM8BB10 series from Silicon Labs
- CY8C series from Cypress Semiconductor which is now part of Infineon
- MUG51 series from Nuvoton
- PIC10F222 from Microchip
- PIC16F877 from Microchip
- ATMEGA328PB from Microchip
- ATTINY from Microchip
- STM8 from STMicroelectronics
