What protection to use on power lines for surge protection?

While working with embedded applications, designers are worried about the surge and ESD events that occur. There is a lot of confusion among engineers where ESD diodes are used for power line protection. ESD diodes are used for protection on signal lines and TVS diodes are to be used on power lines for surge protection. TVS diodes handle more current than ESD diodes. Designer has to check the compliance needs of the board and take a decision.
