While we think of our PCB routing or design as the culprits, there are more to think of reasons while we are thinking of the high speed designs. This includes:
- Routing on the package
- Package leads that connect to the PCB
- Cables that connect our system
- Connectors that are part of PCB
If we read through the above points, we can get to know that the first two points are completely out of the hardware board designers scope and must be handled at the chip design level. Cables and connectors however can be chosen carefully by the designers to ensure that proper matching considerations are taken and there by avoiding signal integrity issues.
As we talked earlier in our blog posts, it is very important that the designer take utmost care during the design stage as probing and debugging.
