Stereo amplifier circuit using TDA1517

TDA1517 is a commonly used Stereo Amplifier IC. TDA1517 is a Class B dual output power amplifier. Both the amplifiers are symmetrical. Below is the circuit for TDA1517 with two inputs and two outputs.

Circuit Description:

TDA1517 can operate between 6V to 18V supply voltage. 12V is considered for this circuit. 12V is provided though 2-pin header. Input power has two filtering capacitors C5 and C6.

TDA1517 has several packages available as shown in the snapshot below. HDIP18 package is considered for this circuit. For DIP package, pins 10 to 18 can be connected to GND or floating. We connected to GND in this circuit. This is a heat dissipating package.

M/SS pin is connected to input supply. So, the Stereo Amplifier is always ON. In case, designers want to Mute or Standby, M/SS can be controlled.

Outputs are connected to two headers through Capacitors C7, C9. These capacitors help block DC. 4ohm speakers with a maximum wattage of 6W can be connected at the terminals P3 and P5.

We considered 2.54mm berg headers for power, input and output.

Bill of Material:

Important Points:
  • TDA1517 provides a fixed gain of 20 dB for each of the input
  • For TDA1517 to operate under low power mode when it is not used, M/SS pin has to be controlled
