Sometimes design requirements demand using capacitors with very low leakage current. Example, a battery operated application where even a current of 1 nA matters needs such capacitors. Some of the capacitors which can be considered under these scenarios are:
- Film Type Capacitors
- C0G Ceramic (NP0) Capacitors
- Teflon Capacitors
These capacitors are low value, non-polarized capacitors, have lower losses and have a good stability over temperature, frequencies. This meant these capacitors have a good temperature coefficient (ppm/degC) rating. The major disadvantage with these capacitors is that they are costly and occupies good space as well.

- ADC converters - Sample and Hold Circuit
- Timing related applications
- C0G are used for the crystals
- Snubber circuit
