Embedded Queries - 5 (Which solder is good to use for Assembly activity?)

Most of the engineers look for recommendation for the type of solder to be used during the assembly. One of the engineers has provided his opinion based on his experience.

The solder with 60/40 combination gives soft & shine solder joint. The same solder with Rosin core (called RMA Lead, Rosin mildly activated) gives better welding by deoxidizing the surface of the joints that need to be soldered. RMA lead requires cleaning with IP solution or distilled water because it leaves black residue at the joint. The melting point is comparatively less for 60/40 lead. The only drawback is it is harmful for the health & environment. Tin solder gives brittle joint and poor surface shining. The melting point of this lead is more than 60/40 lead. It is environmental friendly.

The summary is that for small reworks in the lab, RMA 60/40 solder is good. For bulk production Tin solder is preferable.
