Bluetooth has been the preferred low power, short range wireless communication standard for years now. Starting from the Bluetooth Classic to the Low energy, Bluetooth has come a long way and is a inherent part of the wireless embedded applications. If anyone asks, what is the disadvantage of the Bluetooth, it is going beyond a certain distance, this is where we form Bluetooth Mesh. Now Hubble is going to solve this with Bluetooth devices able to connect to satellites using specific protocol. The major point here is, can Bluetooth devices send signals to such longer distances, yes, with lower data rates and with specific protocol changes. If you did not know about Hubble, Hubble already has multiple satellites in orbit capable of receiving signals from Bluetooth devices. The power of transmission is same as what we do with Bluetooth devices, up to 20 dBm. MG24 chip-set from Silicon Labs is one of the chips used by Hubble right now connectivity.
