Electromagnetic Compatibility - Part 10 (Band-aid approach)

Henry OTT in his Electromagnetic Compatibility book talks about the Band-aid approach where designers go ahead with the designs ignoring the effects of EMC and then start looking for the solutions later in the design cycle. This is not a desirable approach as we move later in the design cycle the options to mitigate issues reduce and cost of the implementation increases. This is explained by the graph above.

Designers have to take cautious approach from the beginning of the design considering the issues that can come and causes of it and try to eliminate them from the design. EMC must be integral part of the design and should not be a band-aid.
