How to select an inductor in buck regulator?

 

The value of inductor in the buck regulator depends on:

• Maximum output current
• Minimum output current
• Output voltage
• Maximum input voltage
• Minimum input voltage
• Frequency of Operation

Inductor value is calculated based on the below calculation:

Inductor (L) = ((Time period of switching waveform)*(Output Voltage+Diode Drop)*(1-Duty Cycle))/(2*Minimum output current)
