FMC Connector

FMC Connector

FMC stands for FPGA Mezzanine Card. FMC connectors are used for I/O expansion in boards. We know that devices like FPGA have extensive I/O interfaces. To extend the interface from FPGA mother board FMC connectors are used. Interface starting from power, low speed to high speed can be connected through the FMC connector. FMC connectors are available in Low Pin count (LPC) and High Pin count (HPC) options. The usage of either LPC or HPC depends on how you have the breakout connections from your mother board.

Advantages include:
  • Multiple connectivity options within a small size
  • Rugged connectivity
  • Used especially for connecting the carrier cards to the mother boards
  • High Speed connectivity
  • LVDS connectivity
Below is an example board with the FMC connector:

VITA57 is a FMC standard and is adopted worldwide by different manufacturers.
