PCB Routing Guidelines - Part 10

PCB Routing Guidelines - Part 10

  • Ensure that VIA size is on the higher side, like for example, start from 12mils of minimum size. This shall ensure that PCB costs cheaper and you can get PCB manufactured by any FAB house. In this case, ensure that annular ring is 18mils minimum for 12mils VIA.
  • While routing ensure that there are no loops in the board
  • Do not route traces at the edge of the board.
  • Ensure that there are no copper islands on the board
  • When there are planes on a single layer of a PCB. Ensure that there is wide spacing between planes such that there is no issue in manufacturing
  • Ensure that the aggressor traces which can couple energy are well spaced from victim traces
  • Get to know that USB 2.0 designers got their PCB to work even though there wasn't continuous reference plane? Does it have something to do with differential pairs? This is a big topic of discussion.
  • Ensure that special assembly instructions are provided for non-standard components. While the Assembly house might be taking care, it is the designer who has to ensure that everything goes well
